Winter Skincare

In the last few weeks I’ve noticed a massive decline in my skin. Not just the way it looks, but also the way it feels. It’s lacked radiance, bounce and makeup isn’t sitting on it as well as it usually does. I could put it down to my 27 years catching up with me, but I think I’ll blame it on the cold weather for another year…

So, I decided to combat the problem head on with some powerful, but gentle skincare changes. It’s time for a reshuffle of my vanity table and a re-evaluation of what my skin needs to combat Winter.

I went to the Clarins counter after having a mini consultation with them at the Stylist Live show back in October, and loving the products they used. I spoke to the lady there, who asked me my age (I told her 27 and she looked totally shocked and said she thought I was 19, just saying 💁🏻), did a little skin review and tested some products on me. I walked away with 3 staple skincare products.

I can’t stand fussy skincare routines, they just don’t suit me, so I wanted something simple and easy to use. I got cleansing milk for all my daily cleansing needs which smells incredible, Lotus oil treatment and Hydro Matte lotion. That covers me for my 3 main needs, cleanse, treat, moisturise. Sorted! The 3 pieces all come from different ranges at Clarins as the consultant said my skin is combination and also very young so she didn’t want to overload it or use anything too powerful.

The cleansing milk is lovely. Very smooth, smells wonderful and takes off every trace of dirt and grime without drying out my skin, which is lovely!

The oil is incredible! It’s actually a treatment oil and is meant to be used overnight to repair the skin and add much needed moisture and vitality. However, this oil can also be used with normal moisturiser and foundation by putting a few drops in before application giving that shot of moisture in with your daily routine. I’ve been using it every night before bed, and the quality of my skin after just a few days has vastly improved. I look much more radiant and the blemishes around my chin are clearing up nicely. I’m very impressed!! It is pricey, but I think it’s totally worthwhile as it will last a long time since you only need 2 drops for a full face application. It’s a product that really works, and it smells incredible too!

Finally the moisturiser. This one is made for combination skin that requires moisture in some areas but gets oil in others. Me down to a T! I tend to get dry on my forehead, around my nose and my cheeks but my chin gets oily so it’s hard to find products to balance this. I think I found the one though. It’s a really fresh smelling, light lotion that sinks in super fast leaving a mattified base ready for makeup, but adds enough moisture to keep my skin looking fresh. I use this under my makeup in the morning almost like a primer, and it keeps the oil in check for hours, without letting the other parts of my face get dry. Plus, a little goes a long way with this product and it’s made from plant extracts so I have no worries about putting a tonne of synthetic products on my skin.

All in all, I’m really impressed with my new little routine. It hasn’t come cheap as Clarins are a pricier skincare brand, but I do think the products are fantastic quality, and really do the job well. I’m going to keep on using these goodies and see how I get on, and I will report back with an update.
