I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, I know I did! We’re coming to the end of the year, and that means looking back at the amazing beauty finds of the year gone by, and sharing my favourites it’s you all… It would be interesting to know if any of these make it onto next years favourites too.
I wanted to share with you some of my favourite things from 2015 including beauty, fashion and food.
I’d also like to let you know that as from January, I will be doing a monthly favourites post, listing all my favourite items each individual month and reviewing those items. Fun, right?
So, let’s get cracking!
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation
I was so excited for the release of this foundation because I had previously used her Light Wonder foundation and absolutely LOVED it. This one isn’t just as good, it’s even better! It provides medium to full coverage with a light, radiant finish while still being matte. It’s like, well, Magic!
This has been a firm favourite in my makeup bag for a few years, and I still absolutely love it. I used this one during the day and switch to my Magic foundation for evening time. Bare Minerals is all natural with no artificial additives making it incredibly kind to skin while being extremely powerful. I struggle with dullness in my skin and this little gem brightens everything up with a single sweep and keeps me looking fresh all day without fail. It is also great for skin prone to break outs like mine as it actually helps the skin to heal due to it’s natural properties. A must have!
I bought this after hearing great things about it from another beauty blogger, and deciding to delve into the powder foundation world. I had worried it would be drying and may cake around the dry areas of my face, but I was SO wrong. It is a beautifully creamy formula that actually moisturises as it covers and provides a perfect matte coverage with no effort at all. I tend to use this with a big powder brush to set my foundation, or I use it over concealer to seal it.
Urban Decay Naked concealer
I LOVE THIS! I needed a new concealer that would cover my break outs as well as redness and shadows. This one is the best all rounder I have found. It is creamy, smooth and blends beautifully, providing outstanding coverage with a natural look and no caking. Its a bit pricier but definitely worth it!
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
Technically not concealer, more of a highlighting blurrer I guess? This is just magic for diffusing dark circles and shadows around the face as well as doubling as a highlighter. I love it because it does what it claims and it does it with such ease!
I’ve tried a fair few blushers this year, and it was a fight between this one and my BareMinerals Rose blusher, but this one took the top spot simply for it’s ease of use, unbeatable colour and longevity. This bad boy can be smoothed onto the apples of my cheeks in the morning and still looks fresh come home time. An absolute bargain too!
I don’t tend to wear much bronzer usually as I’m very fair and bronzer can look very orangey and “false” on my skin, but not this one. I was recommended it on a shopping trip as I was going to buy their blusher/highlighter and the the lady at the counter said I should give this a go instead. She sweeped it on, and I was shocked to see how bronzed and healthy I looked. Not orange or “fake” at all. It’s a beautiful finely milled powder that adds warmth rather than colour making you look like you’ve been on a lovely holiday rather than using a sun bed 3 times a day.
I have a huge collection of eyeshadows to choose from and like to experiment from time to time, but I always come back to these gorgeous eyeshadows just because they are fool proof and just incredible! I used the Patina shade alone with with just mascara at times just to get a break from eyeliner, and it leaves me with the same intensity as a look with eyeliner due to it’s deep bronze colouring and intense look. Taupe is great for an everyday look, giving just a little bit of shading to create a smudgey, rock chick kind of vibe. I’ve had these about 6 months now and they are barely showing use even though I use them all the time, simply because a little goes a long way and it lasts all day!
Benefit cream eyeshadow in Birthday Suit
This is my everyday essential eyeshadow. As you can see, the pot is almost empty because I have used it so often. Its the perfect cream to powder shadow giving beautiful wash of shimmering colour and staying power. I put this on in the morning with just a slick of eyeliner and it will stay put all day.
These eyeliners need a bloody medal! I bought the Barbarella Brown shade first, as I wanted a natural brown liner for daytime, as I felt the black cateye flick was a bit much now I’m getting older. I used it for the first time and was blown away. Not only is the formula incredibly creamy and easy to apply, but it lasts SO WELL, literally staying on all day. The colour payoff is outstanding and it’s super comfortable on the eye. Of course I had to follow it up with the Bedroom Black, then I also purchased Veruchska Mink which is gorgeous but these 2 are my favourites. So much infact, that my Barbarella Brown is now just a little nub instead of an actual pencil.
I’ve used a fair few black liquid eyeliners in my time since I favour a black cat eye flick over most eyeliner styles, but this one knocks every other one out of the park for me. It’s nib shape allows you to create an ultra thin or thicker line depending on your style, and provides a constant flow of product allowing a perfect application every single time. The formula is jet black, smooth and fast drying and lasts all day. This is the first liner I have used that doesn’t fade in the corner of my eyes, and for that alone, I give it a huge thumbs up.
I’m a mascara snob, I admit it. I want a mascara that does it all, rather than several different ones that do different things. This one ticks all my boxes. It lifts, separates, lengthens, creates volume and adds intensity. If you want big, long, bold lashes, this is the ONE. I adore it.
As you can see from a lot of the items on my favourites, Charlotte Tilbury has been a huge winner for me this year! This lipstick is no exception. It is a moisturising, yet matte full colour lipstick that dreams are made of. It gives a huge hit of moisture and comfort with an intense colour payoff and gorgeous matte finish. It lasts for hours, even through eating and drinking, and does flake or crack at all. The colour is also the perfect everyday pink. I tend to wear this to work a lot as the colour lifts my complexion and makes me look really healthy.
Want a perfect nude matte lipstick? Look no further. This one is just pure gorgeousness in a tube. The formula is smooth, creamy and dries into a beautiful matte punch of colour. Its the ultimate nude shade for pale girls, but also works on darker skin tones due to it’s rosey pink undertones. A makeup bag must have!
Is it a balm, a lipstick or a gloss? Well it’s actually all 3. These clever little lip crayons not only intensely moisturise, but also give a beautiful pop of colour and an irresistible sheen. Glossy without being sticky, bold without being too intense, and moisturising without slipping off your lips. I am absolutely in love with these and have favoured them quite a bit over the Christmas period especially mainly due to their ease and the beautiful colours.
The one I always come back to, this primer does everything a good primer should. It mattifies, creates a perfectly smooth base for makeup and keeps it looking fresh all day. If I don’t put this on before makeup I notice a huge difference in the longevity of my base and the freshness throughout the day. Nothing has come close to this wonder product yet.
My brows are very important to me, as they are very dark and literally frame my face, so paying attention to them is important. I have tried lots of eyebrow products but I usually end up using BrowZings just because it does everything I want it to without any fuss. I put the tinted wax on first then fill with the powder to create a flawless HD brow with no trouble. The handy little tweezers are great for grabbing any pesky little hairs threatening my eyebrow game too!
This one actually falls under 2 categories, Contouring AND palettes. Its is the ultimate in contouring bliss, with 2 contouring shades and 2 highlighters that effortlessly create a beautiful contour due to finely milled powders and beautiful colour payoff. BUT, it also contains an incredible eyebrow kit (which very nearly took the top spot from BrowZings) and a stunning eyeshadow set too. Smashbox products are incredible quality and all the products are amazing. The palette is a makeup lovers dream come true.
Technically not makeup, but I call it makeup for my hands. I have been a big fan of Essie for a long while due to their huge range of beautiful colours, long lasting colour and ease of use. Nothing has changed, even after trying several other nail varnishes this year. I came back to my beloved every time, and bought more shades for my collection just because they keep getting better and better. Essie, I love you, don’t ever leave me.
Next up I will be sharing my favourite Skincare products of 2015, including face, body and bath products. Keep your eyes peeled!
